WHO LIVED IN YOUR HOUSE?

An exceptional number of medieval and 17th century timber-framed houses are still standing in the parish of Walsham-le-Willows in central Suffolk.

Although most have been altered and adapted, the evidence of their origins is apparent to the experienced historian.

The oldest house dates back to c.1370; several others were built in the 15th century. Village place-names such as Palmer Street, Summer Road and Fishponds Lane are at least 700 years old, as is St. Mary’s Church, known and used by all the people mentioned.

Local historian Audrey McLaughlin illuminates the lives and characters of these residents through a detailed study of a large archive of early material.
