Breakfast, collect laundry, pack up and remember to hand over the key as I pay my bill. Then the first cycling was uphill, but afterwards I was rewarded with a compensating downhill and then for the rest of the morning it was basically on the level.
A short look at Rye and its cobbled streets, tea in Lydd at the Moon & Stars “The best cafe in town!” as I was told. Not difficult when it is the only one. On that basis it’s the worst one as well. A visit to Dymchurch Station where I paid 25p for a platform ticket to take a photograph, before stopping for lunch in Hythe.
The afternoon started off with a long climb, after having been given directions which would have taken me onto the Motorway!! A stretch on a very quiet A20 and then another serious climb, watched by three youngish cyclists as I started the ascent; what they were thinking can only be guessed at.
A stop in Elham, which was in the throws of a scarecrow competition. Arrived at Canterbury just too late to be able to get pictures inside the cathedral, so shall have to go there again tomorrow morning.
Supper with my sister and Sean and then back to the B&B for the ‘office work’
and bed.
