Walsham le Willows

Cricket

Cricket has been played at the Sports Club since the late 1800’s, the old pavilion proved an excellent facility for cricket in the local area especially with all the features of the old pavilion and with the fenced area in front of the pavilion, made it very special to walk through the wooden gates to go out to bat, (Just like being at Lords!). In the early years the cricket club only played friendlies, but they were competitive, and as time moved on and with the new pavilion being built the club progressed and over the years has played in the leagues in Suffolk where they have been successful. They currently have a senior section which plays most Saturday’s and Sunday’s and also in a midweek league. For further information please contact the Chairman Mr. Peter Knight on 01359 221405. Practice has started for the coming season by using the indoor nets at Culford School on Sunday mornings from 10.00 am to 12.00 am.

A practice game between the club members will have taken place on Wednesday 19th April at 6.00 pm. Outdoor nets will take place throughout the summer at the sports club. The cricket section over the latter years have introduced a youth section which has proved very popular for the younger members and they play in various leagues and cups, they also have net practice during the summer which is on a Friday night at the Sports Club, for further information on the cricket youth section please contact Mr. Howard Gilbert on 01359 259101.
