Meets once a month on the second Wednesday of each month in the Priory Room, Walsham le Willows at 7.45pm.
The Women’s Institute (or the WI as we are probably better known) is alive and well in Walsham and would be delighted to welcome women of all ages to join in our varied programme of talks and outings. We may occasionally make jam, and we do sometimes sing “Jerusalem”, but there is much more to us than that! At our monthly meetings (held in the Priory Room at 7.45 pm on the second Wednesday of the month) we welcome a variety of speakers; in 2006 these range from a talk from “A Policewoman of the Fifties” to a demonstration of “Painting on Pottery” to a talk intriguingly titled “Ladies of the Town”! We have outings to many places of interest and we do like to go to the theatre, occasionally to the West End.
We are part of the Suffolk West Federation of WI’s which provides members with many other opportunities to take part in outings, educational workshops, sporting activities etc etc. The National Federation expands the horizon even further with the chance to attend courses at the WI College (Denmark) in Oxfordshire. If they are so inclined, members can also get involved in the WI’s national campaigning on matters of concern to women and their communities; these include such issues as care of the environment, chemicals and health, and fair trade and trade justice. If you like the sound of us and would like to give us a try, contact our Secretary, Diane Gladders (01449 780365), or our president, Jeannie Bloomfield (01359 258596) and they will be delighted to give you more information.
