The Walsham Drama Group was formed way back in 1992 by a group of friends looking for a way to while away the long dark evenings of a Walsham winter. What they came up with, as their first production, was a pantomime, which proved to be such a success that they have never looked back. Their performances are held in the village Memorial Hall on a Thursday, Friday and Saturday night early in February with a Saturday matinee to draw in the children. The script writers are both members of the group, (not to mention pillars of the community), so their shows contain plenty of local humour and topical gags…audience participation is strictly encouraged! New members of all ages and abilities are always welcome, to help both on and off the stage. Anyone interested in joining can contact Fran Harding on 01359 259693 for more information. Otherwise, read on, (and see the Diary of Events!) for details of their next production!
Walsham le Willows Drama Group production 2010
This year's offering will be the perennial favourite, "Snow White and the Seven Dwarves". A well known story adapted by our very own playwrights, Matthew Lockyer and John Hall (AKA Ron and Reg Hench), the show is full of song and laughter, and guaranteed to send you all home with a smile. This years performance is being sponsored by CEG Productions. Performances will run at the Walsham village Memorial Hall from Thursday 4th, through to Saturday 6th of February. Evening shows start at 7.30 p.m. and there is a matinee at 1.30 p.m. on the Saturday. Tickets, priced at £6.00 are available from Rolfes of Walsham and also from Frances Harding on 01359 259693.
Extracts from a review printed in the Walsham Observer following last year’s production of Robinson Crusoe:
"The enthusiasm and the energy was evident from the moment the players stepped on stage... The sets were outstanding. One almost felt you were on a desert island or in an underwater world... It was evident that all the players had put in a huge amount of time and energy to help make this production a huge success and had a ball doing it. But of course they could not have strutted their stuff without the army of willing Walshamites working on stage design, costumes, props, sound and a hundred and one other things that go into a production like this. Every year there is something different at the village panto and this was no exception. A fun, colourful and thoroughly enjoyable evening."
And here are a few photographs taken during the performance...
We'd love to see you at our next performance!
